What Are the Benefits of Online Education? – Clemenbit
Thu. Mar 23rd, 2023

The future of education is looking bright. Despite the outrageous costs associated with many colleges and universities, online learning has never been easier – and getting a fully accredited online degree – never more affordable. There is a reason why online education has had a steady growth of 9.2% every year since 1999. Now, about 20% of all students enrolled in higher education do so online.

There are so many benefits to online education, I barely know where to begin… but I’ll give it my best shot:

1) An online student can attend courses from anywhere at anytime.
Mothers and Fathers no longer have to hire a babysitter, working students can adjust their class schedule any way necessary and those that travel just need to find a computer with internet access.

2) An online student can find their own methods to success.
Often times when one is in a physical classroom, there is much distraction. In addition to others chatting and a professor who is trying to teach you his method of learning, you may feel a bit out of place. All these factors can hinder the learning practice. With online education, you have the freedom to study the way you see fit. Whether it’s in seclusion or with others online, you have all of the tools at your fingertips.

3) Web savvy students will get more jobs.
As the internet becomes more powerful in everyday life (i.e., streaming, podcasts, social networking, search engines, etc.) those that are comfortable learning and communicating on the World Wide Web are likely to acquire friends and associates from all over the planet. This will only lead to increased opportunities for employment as you get better at searching online for relevant info.

4) Students and Instructors create an exciting, interactive environment.
With the increased use of online counselors and chat rooms set up exclusively for students and faculty, the level of camaraderie and subject understanding is unprecedented. Learning is alive again!

5) Experience the most current knowledge on your chosen course of study.
Many professors do not even require you to buy hefty books for their class. Instead, they often provide you with links, newsletters and e-books – keeping you up to date on your current subject.

6) Online education is environmentally friendly.
Without having to commute to a physical school and, in many cases, buy a physical book, online education reduces your carbon imprint and helps combat our current energy crisis and global warming.

7) An extra skill can help you earn extra income.
It really is a “win-win.” Help save the planet and increase your bottom line. When an employer (current or future) sees that you have the drive and self discipline to increase your education, you will have a better chance of being well compensated for your time on the job. Often, online counselors can help point you in the right direction if you are seeking employment.

8) Learn something from a far away land by the most qualified teachers.
Escape the boundaries of traditional educational institutions. If you live in a rural area with a limited community college, you can obtain very specific courses that may not be offered in your town online. Choose from a broad range of topics that are often taught by those highly qualified in their field.

Now that you understand some of the benefits, it’s time to join the educational revolution that is taking place in the cyber world. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. As social activist Bell Hooks once said,

“I entered the classroom with the conviction that it was crucial for me and every other student to be an active participant, not a passive consumer… [a conception of] education as the practice of freedom…. education that connects the will to know with the will to become. Learning is a place where paradise can be created.”
