There are many factors that make educating girls important. However, the most important factor of them all is betterment of the society. In this article, we will be discussing what good one does for the society by taking necessary steps to educate a girl.
A recently conducted survey has revealed that if the women of a family are educated, the chances of children falling prey to malnutrition decreases significantly. If the mother is educated she will know what kind of food she should offer to her child for keeping him or her healthy. If she is not educated enough to identify the right food types for her child, she will at least possess the ability of spotting early signs of malnutrition in her child and get him/her checked by a physician.
Statistics also suggest that regions of the country with high female literacy rate have significantly lower mortality rate of children and women compared to areas where female literacy rate is low. This is because educated women have better knowledge of health and hygiene. Additionally, educated women are more likely to take their kids for regular health checkups and offer them the treatment suggested by doctors.
One of the biggest problems in third world countries where female literacy rate is low is population. This happens primarily because women are not aware of methods of contraception or birth control. A girl who completes secondary education needs to study biology and thus gets to learn the entire process of motherhood. This helps her to understand the importance of family planning and safe pregnancy. Thus by the time an educated girl attains the age of motherhood, she develops clear understanding about her duties towards her family and the society. Educated women know that in a country where population keeps on increasing it is not a good idea to have more than two children. Thus they consult their doctors and use birth control methods advised by them. These women also know that birth control procedures are not only meant for preventing birth of a child, but also for maintaining a proper gap between two children. By giving birth to fewer children women not only help in keeping the country’s population low, but also help their family is leading a better life.
Educating girls also help in preventing occurrence of HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases and infections. Statistics obtained from a survey conducted recently show that a large share of women with HIV is not educated.
