You may be thinking about exploring the world of affiliate marketing. If so, you’re probably asking yourself¬†“What’s the best way to get an affiliate marketing education?”.¬†You might even be wondering if you even NEED a formal education. I’m going to try to answer both of those questions to help you get started in what could be a very prosperous affiliate marketing career!

Starting with the second question first, the answer is “Yes”, you probably will want to get an affiliate marketing education. None of the techniques used in affiliate marketing are beyond the grasp of most individuals, but you just don’t know what you don’t know, and if you aren’t familiar with the industry, you could waste a lot of time and money floundering aimlessly if you don’t have the necessary knowledge to succeed.

Now, as far as actually GETTING a good education, that’s where you’re going to have some decisions to make. There are a considerable number of educational programs and resources available online, and sifting through them can be quite a task. I will summarize the three basic types of affiliate marketing education available and make a recommendation at the end of this article.

1. Self-Education

If you’re a do-it-yourself type person, there are countless e-books available that offer tips and techniques on various affiliate marketing strategies that are both proven and effective. However, if you seek to obtain your affiliate marketing educational materials through an ad-hoc process of purchasing e-books and independent learning, you will need to be very judicious in your selection of resources and committed to learning independently. Depending on the amount of materials purchased, this can be a fairly affordable way to learn about affiliate marketing, but it will be more difficult for beginners and might not yield the results that you’re hoping for.

2. Online Membership Programs

A good way to obtain your education is to join an organization that specializes in teaching ordinary people how to become affiliate marketers. There are a number of such programs online, and many of them offer good value for the money. Over time, this is a more costly method of obtaining an affiliate marketing education than Method #1, but the cost is easily offset by the increased success experienced due to professional guidance and one-on-one support from successful internet marketers.

3. Bachelor of Science Degree

There are a number of colleges and universities that offer degrees in internet marketing, of which affiliate marketing is a big part. This is a great path to take if you want to be and employee in the field of internet marketing. However, most affiliates prefer to work at home, so this isn’t the type of education that they are seeking. Getting a four-year degree requires a great deal more time and money than the previous two methods.

So which type of education is the best?

In my experience, people who join a membership-based affiliate marketing program typically receive the best bang for their buck. They are able to learn the most effective affiliate marketing techniques, stay in tune with current internet marketing trends, make solid profits and not break the bank in the process.
